FAQs

What time is Scala open?

Scala is available for bookings 09:00-21:00. If you have an evening booking, you must be finished and spaces vacated by 21:00 so allow enough time for clean up and re-setting of the space.

Is Scala Hall accessible?

All areas in Scala Hall are fully accessible to wheelchair users via a lift and ramps.

How do we get to Scala Hall?

Getting to Scala Hall is easy as it's located directly above the Co-Op in Oldfield Park, adjacent to the new Scala accommodation and is just a 5-minute walk from the U1/U2 bus stops on Brougham Hayes. Entrance is via the Co-Op lobby on Shaftesbury Road (for both stair and lift entrances), access is by library card only which will be granted upon your booking confirmation.

How does access work?

Committee members/specified student leaders will be granted access via their library card. This means at least one committee member will need to be present at each booking. We'll take these details from you at the time of booking.

Can I host an event?

Absolutely! If hosting an event you'll need to remember to the maximum capacity of Scala Hall is 60 (including any event organisers). You'll also need to check if an event planner is needed as per the SU's usual policy or if your activity is covered by your standard risk assessment  - your booking will only be confirmed once your event/activity has been approved. Note that as Scala Hall is located in the heart of the Oldfield Park community, noise should be kept to a minimum and the spaces vacated by 21:00.

Can we have food and drink?

Food and non-alcoholic drinks are allowed, and you are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare these. Any groups using the kitchen must complete both the kitchen opening and closing checklists. It is strictly prohibited for students to consume alcohol in the premises.

What else do I need to know?

We want all users to enjoy Scala Hall and ask that all groups respect the space. All bookers will agree to our terms of use at the time of booking.
