History
Our club was founded in 1967, one year after the University received its royal charter. While we now sail Fireflies at Chew Valley Lake, this has not always been the case. When the club was first established, we sailed at Cheddar Reservoir by Axbridge and had only two boats, a Heron and an Enterprise. In 1972, we were sailing Fireflies on the Avon, by Saltford. Around 1976, however, we sold our six (by this point beaten up) Fireflies and purchased three Larks, returning to Cheddar Reservoir. In the mid 1980s, we moved to Chew, where we remain to this day. We sailed our Larks here until we bought our first flight of Fireflies. We hope to be sailing Fireflies at Chew for many years to come!
