RYA Courses

Keep an eye on the facebook page for information about courses. These will be run as and when there is interest. In the mean time, why not come along to our rec sails? They're suitable for anyone, no matter how much sailing you've done before! There will always be someone there to take you out!

 

RYA Level 1:

This course if for complete beginners and includes: Theory: Basic safety, Parts of the boat, Understanding the wind. Sailing Skills: Points of sail, Tacking, Gybing, Capsize recovery. By the end of level 1, you should be able to sail on your own in light conditions.

 

RYA Level 2:

This is an improvers course, for those people who have recently completed their RYA level 1 or who have done some sailing in the past and are feeling a little rusty.  The RYA level 2 is the minimum requirement at most centres to hire out boats.

Theory: Points of sail, Rigging, Launching and recovery, Rules of the road.

Sailing Skills: Advanced tacking and gybing, Sailing around a triangular course, advancing onto man overboard and mooring manoeuvres.

By the end of level 2, you should be able to sail on your own in moderate to strong conditions, controlling the boat to go where you want to with ease.

An RYA level 2 qualification or equivalent will allow you to take part in our Recreational sails allowing you to go out alone on the water and practice.
