On November 9 our Student Radio Station University Radio Bath (URB) headed to the O2 in London for the 22nd Annual Student Radio Awards 2017 Sponsored by Radio 1 and Global.

Over 500 hundred entries across twelve categories are judged by over one hundred industry professionals. We are delighted that URB was awarded a silver award for Best Technical Achievement and a bronze award for the Kevin Greening Award for Creativity.

The entry which won both of these awards was a Radio Catchup service. The basis of this is to automatically categorise links and features from different shows and group them together so the listener can catch up on parts of the show that interest them, based on key words or themes. They are also pointed to other shows which include similar themes or information.

Liam Bridge Station Manager said “I was very pleased with the result and pleasantly surprised to be awarded Bronze for the Kevin Greening Award for Creativity. This award encompasses every single entry to this year’s awards and it is very rare that a technical award is chosen for this. I couldn't have asked for any more from the evening and great to be able to show what great content comes out of University Radio Bath, next year were aiming for gold.”

Out of all the stations in the region, URB had the most members in attendance at the star studded event. Members are already now thinking about what can be entered for next year’s awards and the enthusiasm and excitement is already coming across in some of the most recent shows from the station.
