On Saturday 27 April we held our second SU Bath World Cup, with 16 teams made up from our International Societies competing across 32 games. The event was held at the Sports Training Village, where the teams played a six-a-side football match in a day-long tournament. All proceeds from the event went to RAG’s Big 4 Charities.
Hundreds of students came along to support the teams which made for a really exciting day of football with a great atmosphere.
It was a really close competition with fourth place being taken by last year’s winners, Arab Society, and third taken by the Cypriot Society.
The final was between Spanish and Islamic Societies, with Spain taking the ultimate prize after a thrilling victory, the Spanish society was thrilled as they were knocked out in the semi-finals last year. The team enjoyed their prize of £50 in Plug and Tub vouchers.
David, SU Activities Officer said “This event is a perfect opportunity to give our international societies an opportunity to enjoy recreational sport. It was great to see some many groups come together for a fun day, I was so impressed by the commitment all the teams gave and the support from all the spectators, we look forward to bringing this event back next year.”
Well done to the Spanish Society and to everyone who competed and helped organise this event.
