SU Awards 2023

This is always a truly fantastic night, where we come together to recognise the hard work of the SU groups with a night of celebration and entertainment. We are so lucky and proud to have such a talented and dedicated community of students at The SU, and these awards are a wonderful chance to recognise achievements and put a spotlight on groups that are doing a particularly amazing job.

During the evening, student groups were  awarded for different categories which vary from Best Regular Activity to Most Inclusive Group- ending with the prestigious ‘Best Overall Group award’ which was presented by the Vice Chancellor.

The event was held at Komedia and everyone turned up looking truly fabulous! As well as the Vice Chancellor, the SU Officers were also in attendance, as well as some key university staff and proud SU staff members.

There were 11 awards altogether including; Best Regular Activity, Best Collaboration, Event of the Year, Best Awareness or Fundraising Activity, Change Makers Award, Most Inclusive Group, Committee of the Year, Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community, The Rob Tyrrell Award for Outstanding Individual Contribution and Best Overall Group.

Here’s a breakdown of the individual categories, the groups nominated and the overall winners!

Best Regular Activity:

• BTS Backstage Technical Services – Event Support
• BIUMUN Bath University Model United Nations – Weekly Debates
• BUST Bath University Student Theatre – Weekly Workshops
• Crochet Society – Weekly Classes
• Poker Society – Weekly Tournament

And the winner was… BUST Bath University Student Theatre!

 

Best Collaboration:

• Cultural Showcase – CS, BURBAN, DanceSoc, Nightline & Salsa Society
• DanceSoc Winter Showcase – DanceSoc, BTS, BURBAN, Salsa & PoleSoc
• The Prince’s Bride – BUST, BIAS, BTS & CampusTV
• Grease – BUSMS & BTS
• Yoga and Mindfulness – Nightline and Student Minds

And the winner was… Cultural Showcase – CS, BURBAN, DanceSoc, Nightline & Salsa Society

 

Event of the Year:

• BUGS Guides & Scouts – Reunion Camp

• ChaOS Choral & Orchestral Society – Jazz Night
• Kickboxing – Fight Night
• Latin & Ballroom – Winter Friendly

Best Awareness of Fundraising Activity:

Over the course of the night, we  had amazing performances from some very talented student groups. Three members of BUSMS put on an entertaining performance of ‘I Know It’s Today’ from Shrek the Musical, the talented ChaOS Alley Barbers performed two songs acapella and the Bath Indian Dance Society performed an awe-inspiring traditional dance! This was just another show of how much talent we have at Bath.

The SU Awards is always such a lovely celebration, and the numbers of nominees are yet another testament to the amount of talent and dedication we have at Bath. Activities Officer Viktor commented that, ‘Success is not a solo journey, it's a result of collective effort.’ He also added, ‘On behalf of the entirety of the SU officer team I would like to thank all the student leaders for your dedication and selfless commitment to their groups. You have exemplified true leadership and have shown that incredible things happen when people come together with a common purpose. Congratulation to all the winners and thank you for sparking positive change in our university’.
