Second VC Breakfast of the Academic Year!

On Wednesday 15 November, Vice Chancellor Ian White held his second VC Breakfast with members of the student body and Community Officer Hanna.

The VC Breakfasts are held periodically across the academic year and are a wonderful opportunity to reward and recognise students for their hard work and efforts. The second of the year was held this morning, where the Vice Chancellor invited members of the Diversity and Support Executive Committee, Hall Representatives from Norwood House and Community Officer Hanna to join him for breakfast.

Here are some additional details about who was invited to attend and why.

Members of the Diversity and Support Executive Committee are the highest level of student representative and they stand for the different diversity and support groups that we have at Bath University. Over the past year they have been hugely successful; Bath Nightline received 2 awards at the Nightline Awards Ceremony, one for Most Supportive Union and one for Best Volunteer Training. The D&S Groups worked together to run the collaborative event ‘MogOff’, Feminism and Gender Equality worked with Empowered Campus to run a survey on combatting sexual harassment on campus and the Disability Action Group have helped with setting up a new sensory friendly study room in the library- all alongside running their individual societies!

Attending the VC Breakfast will give them the important opportunity to be recognised for this hard work, as well as a chance to discuss their plans and concerns for the upcoming year with the VC.

Three Hall Representatives from Norwood House, Holly Pratten, Will Darling and Caitlin Grainer-Spivey, were also recognised for their dedication to their role last year and their continued commitment to always going above and beyond. Their hard work was observed last summer, when they were nominated for an SU Award and they also have been a huge help to Community Coordinator Sarah in training the new cohort of Halls Representatives by talking about their own experiences and giving them advice for the year ahead.

Community Hanna was also in attendance, and described it as ‘an amazing opportunity to do something special for our student leaders for going above and beyond. It was also so great to show our appreciation for them taking on the role of representing the voices of peers’.

The next VC Breakfast will be held on December 6, with Activities Officer David and members of Cultural Groups.
