We the students of the University of Bath want the best possible outcome for students’ studies and research, while also expecting the most optimal pay and working conditions for University staff, including Postgraduates who teach.

In response to the planned industrial action, as an SU, we are taking the following actions:

  • Working to mitigate the impact of industrial action on your taught course, or research, by liaising with senior University staff and lobbying for effective communication and support for students.
  • Liaising with staff and UCU to ensure we share their perspectives on the disputes.
  • Providing information and resources to empower students to: seek appropriate support (academic or wellbeing), to support the strike if they wish to, to make a complaint if they wish to, or just generally find out more. All this information, including our support toolkit, is available on our Strikes webpage
  • Representing our members’ best interests in both the long and short term. Our intention is to provide opportunities for students to learn more about the topic (like our live Q&A), while allowing students, including representatives, to decide as individuals whether support the strikes, or not.

As an SU, we have not taken an explicit ‘stance’ at this stage. We have a diverse student community and must represent all students’ views, without polarising the issue or our members. Regardless of stances, we believe our Students’ Union should be undertaking the same actions either way. All students deserve access to high quality education, achieving learning outcomes, research aims and with optimal staff working conditions.
