Momentous Month for BathMUN!

It’s been a momentous time for Bath Modern United Nations Society, who have not only attended their first international conference in Madrid but are also only weeks away from hosting their very own conference, BathMUN.

On November 7, eight BathMUN students flew from London to Madrid Barajas Airport to attend the IE International MUN Conference. 450 attendees filled the space at the IE Tower, a famous skyscraper in Madrid where the conference took place. Over 35 Universities attended, with representatives from Spain, France, Germany, Ghana and the USA- though Bath was the only University from the UK!

The conference consisted of four days of intense debate, with the Bath delegates representing Yemen, Jordan, Lebanon and even George V in the special WWI crisis committee. The BathMUN head delegate Titus Hiller commented, “it felt like we were there in representation of the whole country – I think we did very well. Bath was certainly well represented, and we all had a really good time.” He added that they are “looking forward to our upcoming conferences”.

Upon returning to Bath after the conference, the society got stuck straight into organising their next major event- BathMUN! BathMUN is a three day conference running between 1 December and 3 December which will be filled with unique ceremonies, debate sessions and memorable socials. The team at BathMUN have worked hard in preparation over the last 12 months to bring a selection of historical and modern topics led by some of the best chairs in the UK. Already, over 170 delegates from 25 separate Universities from the UK and beyond have already signed up, with expectations that this year will be the highest attended BathMUN to date.

Daniel Aschenbrenner, the Secretary General of this year’s edition commented that, “from December 1 to 3, our campus will be bustling with students from across the country. It is your choice whether to just see them bustling around, or to bustle around with them!”

Even more excitingly, BathMun has managed to secure the historic Guildhall as the location of their gala! The stunning 18th century building is located in the heart of the city and the group believes it will be the perfect venue to welcome their visitors. Follow along with the event and the gala through the groups social media channels, or better yet- give it a go yourself!

A huge well done to BathMUN for all their hard work at the IE International MUN Conference, and good luck for the upcoming BathMUN!
