Latest VC Breakfast!

Members of SUmmit and our Student Trustees met Vice Chancellor Phil Taylor at a recent VC breakfast.

On Thursday 13 March, SU student trustees and members of SUmmit met our Vice Chancellor Phil Taylor at a VC breakfast.

Students on SUmmit are such amazingly involved students, who are responsible for developing values of the SU that we as officers use to fuel our work and present the student opinion to the University. This is done via students submitting a “statement of interest” (formerly “standpoint”) – a position that the SU adopts on a particular issue, topic, or aspect of University life. These then have actions assigned, such as to officers, to make sure that they come to fruition.

The conversation covered the students roles, the University work on trying to find a new term to replace BAME, and the current University work on climate action.

One attendee said “It was an amazing opportunity for students to have a humanised view of how the University functions at a senior level – with the VC explaining current climate work in a down to earth and accessible way”. Another said “It was a very inviting and welcoming atmosphere”.

In attendance were SU trustees Katie Head and Marcus Ward, as well as SUmmit members Jojo Darling, Xandi Drysdale, Star Dootson, Josh Freer, Lauren Wright, William Riddell, Manya Gupta, Dom Vald, Jian Xim Lim and Sam Ellis Hunt.
