The Dance Society have recently been celebrating some huge achievements after attending Loughborough Dance Competition, the largest dance competition in the UK!

The Society bought 7 teams and a range of different dancers to the competition and were competing against 23 other Universities from across the country. Excitingly, the judges were also made up of 5 industry professionals, including Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Nikita Kuzmin, star of the Dane Bates Collective Sasha Woodward, assistant choreographer of Channel 4’s Flirty Dancing Morgan Plom, choreographer of UEFA Euro 2022 closing ceremony and Seasons 1 and 2 of the masked singer Jared Hageman and finally Junior soloist for the National Ballet Francesca Velicu.

The society had some amazing achievements across the day, including numerous first places! Some of the highlights included the Ballet team, who was led and choreographed by Daisy Grostern and the Tap Team, choreographed by Izzy Murray and Ella Pimperton, who both came first in their categories. The lyrical team, led and choreographed by Sophie Rouse and Abi Russel came third in their category. Another massive accomplishment of the day was the Wildcard Team, led and choreographed by Ellie Copeland and Gemma cooper, who got an almost perfect score of 99 from Strictly Come Dancing professional Nikita Kuzmin. 2 of the Wildcards dancers were also in contention for Dancer of the Day which is impressive as 1250 dancers were in attendance.

There were also workshops being run on the day – two dancers participated in a workshop from Jared Hageman and learnt the music video choreography a new Harry Styles song and others participated in a ballet workshop from Francesca Velicu, a commercial workshop with Morgan Plom, a contemporary workshop with Sasha Woodward and a Latin workshop with Nikita Kuzmin.
