We are thrilled to announce that DanceSoc have had amazing success in the recent Loughborough Dance Competition

We are thrilled to announce that DanceSoc have had amazing success in the recent Loughborough Dance Competition, taking place over Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 March. This competition is one of the largest dance competitions for Students’ Unions, with 30 groups taking part from across the country, and one of three competitions DanceSoc is participating in this season.

This year DanceSoc sent seven of their advanced dance teams to Loughborough. These were Advanced Ballet, Advanced Jazz, Advanced Tap, Advanced Commercial, Lyrical and Advanced Hip-Hop. The society collaborated with Bath Indian Dance Society to compete in the Wildcard dance.

Three of Dance’s advanced teams placed in highly competitive categories:

  • Third place in Advanced Hip-Hop
  • Second place in Advanced Ballet
  • First place in Advanced Commercial
  • They also won Best Costume for their Advanced Commercial routine

Special mention to member Maya who won the Loughborough freestyle dance battle.

The dancers have been rehearsing several hours a week since October, and their hard work has paid off. Scores were based on ratings in categories such as costume, choreography, musicality, and originality, with competition fierce enough that placing is a huge success for everyone involved.

This was an amazing achievement which followed their recent success at the Northampton Dance Competition on Sunday 2 March, where they brought home five gold trophies and one bronze.

DanceSoc’s next competition is on the 24 March in Surrey, for both Intermediate and Advanced teams, so keep an eye on their SU page and their social media to see how they do.

Huge congratulations to everyone involved!
