As we approach Officer campaigning, this is a reminder to be kind. SU Officer elections begin today. Due to the ongoing presence of online abuse, bullying and harassment, both locally and nationally, we are emphasising the importance of being kind and respectful.
Elections are a particularly busy and stressful time for our Officer candidates, and as an SU, the welfare of our candidates is our highest priority. Our dedicated students stand for elections and 'put themselves out there' because they want to make Bath better for other students.
As an SU, we want to support all our candidates and give them the best environment to run their campaigns in. Elections is always a fun week, with plenty of opportunity for challenge and debate, but we should be criticising policies, not people.
Personal attacks and mocking others, whether it be in person or via anonymous online forums, is and always will be completely unacceptable. We will be taking serious action to stamp out harassment and bullying again during this elections period. We would encourage our community to call out and report any incidents they may see. There is always a real person on the other end of negative comments who suffers the consequences, whether you see it or not.
