Bath beat Cardiff met at the BUCS Super Rugby Anniversary game.
Last Wednesday, over 6,000 spectators braved the rain and flooded (pun intended) to the Rec, home of Bath Rugby, for the highly anticipated BUCS Super Rugby Anniversary Game against Cardiff Met. The crowd was a sea of blue and gold as the start of the match approached, and Met Supporters were also there in droves.
Although the conditions were less than ideal with non-stop rain falling throughout the day and the match itself, it was a fantastic game and truly kept spectators on the edge of their seats.
The home team was greeted by a massive roar from the crowds as they entered the pitch via the Bath Jets Cheerleading Team and the crowd was on their feet again only three minutes later when Price-Thomas scored a penalty for Bath. Met immediately responded quickly with points for Met, but by the twelfth minute, Bath had a 6-3 lead. However, it was a tense end to the first half of the match as Met led with a 17-11 score.
The second half of the game was even more exciting as Bath finally regained the lead in the 57th minute and the final whistle to signal the end of the match was greeted with the loudest roar of the night from the crowds.
The Anniversary Game Trophy was presented to co-captains Tom Cowan and Ludo Kolade by Former Wales and British & Irish Lions international Lee Byrne on behalf of the sponsors, Colour Studios and Dragon Signs, as a proud Bath audience cheered them on. Kolade said, ‘It’s unbelievable. We had really high expectations going into the game and were determined to get our first win of the season. With the support of 6,000 fans behind us all the way, right to the 80th minute, we were able to pull it off.’ He added that, ‘the conditions were horrible, but there is nothing like playing at The Rec.’
Aaron James, Head of Rugby at the University of Bath added, ‘I’m really proud of the boys and pleased they got some reward for their efforts. For the supporters to come out in the rain like they did was truly appreciated, they really made the even a spectacle. Thank you to everyone, The SU, The University of Bath, Team Bath, the supporters and the sponsors for making this another fantastic night to remember.’
