Your new weekly food waste recycling collection
If you are new to university in Bath or are returning after the summer break and living off campus in private accommodation, you will find that from 4 October Bath & North East Somerset Council introduced a new weekly collection for your food waste.
If you have access to the Council’s weekly green box recycling collection you should have received two black plastic food waste containers delivered to your home, to use for the new collection. The Council also supplied 52 compostable liners (bags made from potato starch) for you to use to line the smaller bin (kitchen caddy). The larger food waste bin is designed to keep outside and put out for weekly collection on the same day as the other recycling and waste. This outside food waste bin has a lockable handle which keeps it secure from animals and birds.
You can now recycle all your raw and cooked food waste in the weekly food waste recycling collection such as:
• meat and bones
• vegetable and fruit waste
• fish
• dairy products
• bread and pastries
• tea bags and coffee grounds
• and also uneaten food scraped from your plate.
Instead of being sent to landfill, the food waste collected will be turned into high quality compost for use on agricultural land.
