Committee 2022 - 2023
Chair - Amy Goncalves
Hi, I'm Amy (she/her), a final year Architecture student and this year's Chair!
I think it's great that, as a club, we can offer so many people the opportunity to get outdoors, meet new people, try new things and explore new places. For this reason, club trips are what I am looking forward to most this year.
Despite my best efforts, I don't think I could possibly choose a favorite club memory…there's too many good ones! What I can say is that during my three years in the club, I've enjoyed good company and a good laugh above all else.
Treasurer - Joseph Shouksmith
Name: Joseph Shouksmith (he/him)
Degree: Mechanical Engineering 4th year (just finished placement!)
Thing I’m looking forward to: going on lots more cool trips and seeing more cool places!
Favourite Club Memory: walking on Christmas trip and putting the snow in Snowdonia while bum sliding on the way down
Secretary - Helene Rittscher
Name: Helene Rittscher (she/her)
Degree: Biochemistry with Industrial Placement - 4th year
Role: Secretary
Looking forward to this year: the Night-Hikes! They’re always a lot of fun and a good little challenge!
Favourite mountaineering memory: Dipping in an alpine lake on a backpacking trip!
Orienteering Secretary - William Garnett
Hi, my name is Will (he/him), I’m a second year Mechanical engineer and the sole Orienteering secretary for BUMC. I may not be a climber, but I love hiking all around the UK, and I’ve been orienteering for nearly 10 years and competed at competitions around Europe. This year I am most looking forward to taking a strong team to BUCS in Cambridge this year. My favourite memory with the club was representing the university at the English Unis orienteering championship earlier this year.
Climbing Secretary - Anissa Mayouf
Hi, I’m Anissa (she/her) and I’m one of the Climbing secretaries for this year. I’m in my final year doing a BSc Physics with Astrophysics degree and I’ve just come back from doing a placement in laser physics.
A few favourite BUMC memories: My first time climbing outdoors on summer trip in Cornwall in my first year, climbing in Gower on the beach and doing my first top out outdoors at Fontainebleau this summer. I can’t wait to go to Font again!
I look forward to meeting everyone and climbing loads !
Climbing Secretary - Beth Burnett
Hello, I am Beth (she/her)
I’m a final year pharmacy student and this year I am one of the climbing secs!
I am really looking forward to getting more people involved in climbing and helping everyone learn new skills so more people can enjoy this sport that so many of us love.
My favourite memory from the club was going to Fontainebleau this year especially driving the MPV, increasing my confidence with outdoor bouldering and of course enjoying the French cuisine.
Walking Secretary - Hana Williams
Hi there! I’m Hana and one of this year’s walking secretaries and a second year Civil Engineer.
I’m a really keen hiker and love long distance walking and backpacking. I’m also a big running fan and occasional climber.
I’ve really enjoyed being part of BUMC this year. The summer trip to Dartmoor was lovely and the pub social on Thursdays is always good too. I’m really looking forward to organising club walks this year - especially the night hike.
Looking forward to meeting lots of new faces and going on more trips!
Walking Secretary - Heather Dalgleish
Hi everyone! My name is Heather (she/her) and I'm a second year pharmacy student.
I'm one of this year's Walking Sec's and I'm most looking forward to helping people to get outdoors around Bath as well as further afield.
My favourite memory from last year in BUMC was the night hike in Bradford-on-Avon. It was exhausting but great fun competing as a team to win as many points as possible through the night.
Gear Secretary - Tom Morgan
Hi, I’m Tom Morgan (he/him), a 4th year Mech Eng. student, and the gear sec for this year
I'm really looking forward to the many trips throughout the year to various classic climbing destinations all across the country, a great way to meet like-minded climbers and walkers.
My favourite club memory is probably slowly learning to trad climb from more experienced members of the club, and building up to my first trad lead in Stanage. Still have a lot to learn, but this has been the best way to pick up the tools and tricks of the trade. It’s opened my eyes to a whole new style and culture of climbing and helps me dream of bigger objectives.
Social Secretary - Jack Ingram
I'm Jack and a third year Mathematician.
I'll be your social sec this year. I joined the club last year and got involved in most the socials so it felt fitting to run for social sec. A year ago I completed the 3 peaks in 24 hours (ish ??). I love the feel of adventure and achievement and mountaineering brings both of this for me. This year I hope to keep upping the levels as I seek for my next challenge. As for my favourite club memory: the climbing mountains part so it would have to be scrambling up tryfan????. But anytime I'm outside (and it's not raining), I'm having a good time! Hope to meet you all soon :)
Media Secretary - Emma Wilkes
Hi I'm Emma (she/her)
I'm a 4th year architecture student and I'll be your media sec for the year. That means I'll be the one to answer any messages that get sent to our dm's and posting about all the cool stuff that the club gets up to!
This year I'm looking forward to touching lots of rocks, having a laugh at the socials and hopefully not getting too lost navigating round bradford-on-avon at 3am in the morning
Favourite mountaineering memory..not sure if it's a favourite but its definetely a memory.. has got to be summiting Tryfan on fresher's trip last year, getting ready to take a group photo, and immediately getting hammered by hail and rain and some rather-too-close sounding thunder!
Voting Member - Josh Nicholas
Hi, Josh (he/him) here! I'm a 4th year physics student and an ex walking sec, now returning from placement.
I'm originally from the south west, and when I'm not knee deep in a Dartmoor bog, you'll probably find me reading at the entrance of my tent in the back end of nowhere. I'm also a passionate hillwalker, which I try to do as much as possible, and to give the climbers some credit, dabbling in a bit of bouldering is also a lot of fun too.
This year, I'll be taking on the mysterious role of voting member, assisting with the smooth running of the club and dealing with lots of faffage à la paperwork. I'll also be organising Christmas later in the year, where I'd love to see you all! Otherwise, I'll just be a general helping hand, and I'm so excited to meet everyone and to share my passion for the outdoors.
My favourite club memory has to be singing carols on top of Helvellyn in my second year. It was just a wonderful experience.
