What We Do

If you need help ~

  • Coping with the pressures of work and modern life
  • Developing mental clarity, concentration, and focus
  • Relating to others in a calm, caring, and constructive manner
  • Finding inner peace, real happiness and contentment for ourself and the ability to share it with others

Then the meditation society may be the place for you. Our society meets every week on Tuesday evenings. Come along to one of our sessions, they are a great opportunity to learn how to meditate and gain some insight into the thoughts and emotions you have.

Our teacher, Sharon Collins, is an experienced meditator and mindfulness practitioner who has been leading the sessions at MedSoc for many years. Based in Bath, Sharon has spent eleven years studying meditation (primarily based on Buddhist scripture), and has been teaching for nine years. Her classes are relaxed, informal, and accessible to all. Based on personal experience, she shares the benefits of meditation and mindfulness with her students, and gives practical guidance on how they can apply them in their own lives, in order to enhance their mental well-being, improve their relationships, and perform to their full potential.

We hope to have a few social evenings throughout the year such as movie nights, skyline walks and or even just casual coffee meetups :)

 Everyone is welcome

The sessions use teachings as a tool for successful meditation practice but of course you do not need to be a Buddhist to benefit from these meditations. Members of this society come from all walks of life. Every human is the sum of different experiences and walks a different path. Everyone is welcome. The classes are suitable for both beginners and experienced meditators. Come along to any session and see what you think before joining.

Reasons to Join Us

Meditation is simply a method of training our mind to get beyond the reflexive, "thinking" mind, and into a deeper state of awareness. When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and the mind becomes still, a deep contentment and sense of "knowing" arise naturally from within. If you decide to meditate regularily you will find a renewed outlook on life - a more appreciative lens on which to view the world!

Our sessions are aimed at discovering the practice of meditation, along with the timeless wisdom that traditionally accompanies it.

Here is a great article that will give you a great introduction to mindfulness meditation.
