Details

The role of a Climate Champion is vital in promoting and engaging fellow students with all aspects of sustainability and climate action. You will encourage sustainable behaviours through running a range of sustainability focused activities and events within the University calendar year. Primarily role holders will be working as part of a team of Climate Champions to provide peer-to-peer support that encourages sustainable behaviours in areas such as:

  • travel and transport
  • energy and water usage
  • sustainable food
  • sustainable consumption (buying)
  • waste and recycling

Person Specification

The ideal candidate for this role will be:

  • passionate about sustainability and environmental issues
  • confident talking to students on these topics in an enthusiastic manner
  • able to creatively communicate about sustainability through social media and other channels
  • confident to identify areas for improvement and propose solutions to the relevant University staff including the Waste, Recycling & Environment Manager and Climate Action Team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Visit Halls of Residence and private accommodation in the city and on campus at key times in the year to speak with students about environmental challenges, promote campaigns and engagement initiatives.
  • Promote and market climate action activities and events including ‘Love Food, Hate Waste’, ‘Leave No Trace’ and ‘Fairtrade’.
  • Role model pro-environmental behaviours and encourage students to reduce their carbon footprint by focusing on the most material issues.
  • Participate in climate action initiatives and assist with the recruiting of volunteers to participate in these initiatives.
  • Organise events in accommodation for campaigns such as Green Week and Fairtrade Fortnight.
  • Be able to self-motivate and work independently when engaging with students.
  • Utilise a short questionnaire/discussion guide to stimulate conversations and record responses.

Work as part of a team to generate new and innovative ideas to promote environmental issues across campus.
