Opening hours for this outlet is 10:00-15:00 Monday to Friday, so please only apply if available within these hours. Term Time is a minimum of two shifts. Shifts length vary from 4-6 hours.

The Students’ Union Bars & Events team are looking for committed individuals to join our award-winning team to support our exciting new outlet that is due to open early next year on campus. This position would be ideal for anyone looking for some work on campus. One of the key values at the SU is to promote a sense of fun and enjoyment, which we hope to achieve every day. We are looking for a hard-working individual who is ready to be an ambassador for the SU Bars in all aspects of their work. As service staff you will be expected to serve drinks, take food orders, and maintain a tidy environment both behind the café counter and in the front of house.
Although previous customer service experience is desired, it is not essential. The ability to demonstrate excellent customer service is extremely valuable to us at the SU. Applications are ongoing and due to the large number, we receive, unsuccessful applicants may not receive a responded to.
As SU bar staff your main duties will include:
- Greet customers warmly as they arrive.
- Take customer orders accurately and promptly.
- Answer customer questions about menu items, ingredients, and potential allergens.
- Input orders into the point-of-sale (POS) system or relay them to the kitchen staff.
- Serve food and drinks promptly while ensuring they meet presentation and quality standards.
- Prepare and serve hot beverages like coffee, tea, and specialty drinks (if barista-trained).
- Assist with basic food preparation & plating, if required by the café.
- Clear and clean tables promptly after customers leave.
- Wash and polish dishes, glasses, and cutlery as needed.
- Follow food safety and hygiene standards when handling food and drinks.
- Process payments using cash, card, or digital payment systems.
- Work closely with other staff members, including kitchen and barista team members.
- Communicate effectively about customer needs and special requests.
- Restock supplies such as cups, plates, and utensils.
- Notify management of low stock or equipment issues.
