Calendar of elections 2024-25 

We run a number of different elections throughout the academic year.  

For SU Officer Elections we have a much more detailed calendar available to support candidates - Run to be an Officer

Election Rules 

To ensure that our elections are run in a fair and inclusive way we have rules which apply to all elections. There are also some specific rules which additionally apply to SU Officer elections only which are clearly labelled in the Election Rules document. 

We also have an Acceptable Behaviours Framework for our Officer Elections, and guidance for SU Groups to endorse candidates in the Officer Elections only. 

SU Democratic Procedures Team 

DPT are a group who discuss and debate how to make The SU’s democratic procedures as fair and inclusive as possible.

Elections FAQs 

It is a good idea to have a read through our FAQs page if you have a question about any elections. We have some general FAQs as well as some SU Officer election specific FAQs. 

We have also been running some SU Officer information sessions based around the role of Officer to give more insight into the generic role (rather than role specific). For more information about each role's remit look on the FAQ page or speak to a member of SU staff or current SU Officer.

Campaigning Tips  

If you are thinking of standing in an election or are a candidate and want to know how to campaign without spending any money, we have made a guide with some top tips. 

Note that only in the SU Officer elections can candidates spend money on their campaign, we have specific guidance on campaigning in the SU Officer elections.  

All campaigning must also be in line with our Election Rules.
