Invest in accessible storage for student activities & sports to allow student groups to grow their offer

Lead Officer: Angus Gueterbock, Sport Officer

What is the issue about?

For many students, their involvement in a society, club, or groups is the cornerstone of their university experience. A vibrant and adaptable network of student groups is essential.

Current student group operations are limited both by the current storage situation on campus, with some allocated storage spaces being inaccessible and impractical.

A lack of storage options for student groups means students are storing items in their homes. This reality combined with the increased limitation of campus parking. The lack of storage at the Sulis Club has also led to an increase in students storing large amounts of kit either at home or far away from pitches.

Without increased investment by the university into accessible storage, for SU groups, there is the risk that the SU will not be able to affiliate new clubs.

What are we asking the University to do?

We are asking the University to audit the current student group storage options, provide additional storage spaces for student groups, and invest in new storage solutions where appropriate.

What will success look like?

  • Increased SU storage allocation for existing student groups

  • Storage needs of groups met from an accessibility perspective

  • Students spending more time on their activities rather than managing storage matters
