Cue the cameras, spotlights, and the opening lines of your favourite sitcom song...
Welcome to season 2!
Though it is admittedly a quieter time around here in the SU, I am very much committed to this blog and keeping you all updated on what the officers are up to. Plus, we have the excitement of a new team to motivate us through the non-society-event filled days.
It was only this week that we started, officially, no outgoing officers around anymore, as an officer team. I admit part of me is half expecting Abbie to rock up after a Team Bath meeting or Hanna carrying one of her low-calorie caffeine drinks. But the other part of me is very excited and proud of how the new team has come together so far.
During handover, we worked hard to have a good balance between group handover (during which we discussed projects like the food pantry or any item on the top 10), as well as individual handover (during which outgoing officers could tell incoming officers the ins and outs of each role). Amber and I had the pleasure of handing over to Zuber, our new PG officer, and tried our best to cover every bit we knew about the role. Our lovely SU staff, as usual, did a magnificent job of helping us with this. I guess you’ll have to ask him directly, in a couple of months, how well his handover went.
Now that handover is over, they all know their roles, the legal implications of being a trustee, and everything to do with SU meetings and representation opportunities, the work really starts! We don’t take the summer off at all, despite popular belief. In the next few weeks the team will meet most (if not all) the different university teams that we work with for one reason or the other, we’ll decide and write our top 10 issues for the year and last, but certainly not least, we’ll have a chance to do some team bonding and get ready for what will no doubt will be a year as busy as the last. We also have the new VC starting on August 1, so that will also be an exciting change that we’ll navigate as a team.
As I said at the beginning, I will keep the blog posts going throughout the summer. But again, it is indeed a quieter time so the updates might not take as long. If there’s anything you’re particularly interested in learning about, let me know and I will write about it (take my attempt to explain the governance of the SU or its finances as proof of my explanation attempts). In the meantime, stay tanned and be kind to one another!
Much love,
