It's HalloWEEK!

Okay, before I even start nerding out about Halloween and all you’ve missed over the second half of this month, let me clue you in on a couple of things I learnt about cheese (as I promised I would)

  • About half of all fridges in England have a BLOCK of cheddar from Cathedral City in their fridge
  • In WW2, a LOAD of artisanal cheeses went missing from production because cheddar was the only cheese you were allowed to make (owing to it being efficient with amount of milk, and easy to divide)
  • There is no such thing as truly lactose free cheese – it is a “sham”

I also learnt how to make a cup of tea in a mug that tastes like it was made in a kettle, and met some gorgeous people – a dermatology doctor who is on a mission to make the first ever truly lactose free cheese, and a guy who was on the course because “everything is going wrong and I have to start doing stuff I actually LIKE”.

Aside from that, here is a few things you may have missed:

University Challenge!

In a set of “blink and you’ll miss it” preliminary trials – a whole horde of y’all came to try out for University Challenge! It was a true joy to see y’all answer with such enthusiasm, and the  camaraderie was just *chefs kiss*. I wanna thank you for trying out – and have my fingers crossed for everyone!

Race to Paris

Pro of being an officer: living close to your work, con of being an officer: this meaning you have to start at 6am. For real though, being able to check in and send off everyone from Ali G to Remy and Ratatouille themselves was uh-mazing, and totally worth the sheer amount of caffeine I had to pump into my body. Also being able to see everyone track across the map was nail biting – a few hours in, one team was at Bristol airport, and the other was at the bottom of Bathwick Hill, and by the time I left at 2 (over my time, but there was pizza, can you blame me?) we could see people at the ports. Truly a sight to see.

Language Café

Language café my beloved. That’s it, that’s the comment.

Okay, a little extra – at this language café I went RIGHT back to the BSL table and was able to keep up more (yippee!) as well as getting some well needed revision of bits and bobs like colours and grammar. If you haven’t been to a language café, I would always always recommend it (just as I will also recommend you to book a ticket!)

Academic Rep Training

The new reps are in town! We’ve been training up academic reps this week, and it is, as always, strange to see y’all in the same situation I was in in 2019, but also I love any excuse to hype you up, and I can’t wait to see y’all at Academic Council !

All things Halloween!

Are you aware I love Halloween? Adore Halloween? Would live and die for Halloween?

I’ve been dressing especially spooky this HalloWEEK – decking out in spiderweb shirts made from DEADSTOCK fabric and all of my Micheline Pitt x Ben Cooper collab pieces, as well as in a casual cosplay of Jack Skellington. It has been a JOY and I love it here.

This also brings me to our signs of the week – all amazingly, joyously, Halloween themed.
