The first day I had in this role, I came home to find out my housemates had brought me some peonies. I LOVE peonies, and if you have been around me lately you would KNOW I have been practically chanting ‘It’s peony season’. Peonies are usually only around for a month or so, so seeing them while grabbing a loaf of bread in Sainsburys and being hit with the realisation that it has been a WHOLE YEAR since I started this job is something else - even if I am in it for yet another year. It was something I could ignore though – our current team wouldn’t be leaving soon, we have time right? Then they started looking for jobs, and getting them, and prepping to move out, and suddenly, it is the Friday before handover.
The last working day before Benji, Liv, and Zuber start.
As well as obviously prepping for this, there has been so much Wrapping Up as students head home.
We had our final VC breakfast of the year alongside our absolute superstars of reps, helped over 200 students with our SU pantry, I wrote my first ever Wonkhe article about how awards season is a strange thing to have when students deserve recognition year round (might as well start off kicking right ?), and even voiced our end of year video with my signature (rather random) northern twangs.
Looking forward, we have so much to do over summer. A lot of stuff gets picked up while students are here, and as I am heading into my second term, I’m gonna get roped in.
As I type, we have our academic rep survey out, are planning reform for a million and one things, and are chasing up this years Top 10s (the bonus of continuing is, of course, making sure your work continues).
Okay lets keep it short Amber – after all, time is short, and things are a-changing.
