Hey nerds (lovingly) – there is a UK general election on 4th July ! You have most definitely been absolutely bombarded with the mantra of "vote, vote, vote!", and while I don't just want to add onto the pile, I DO want to give you a terribly punny version you can easily save and share - so here it is !
With voting day being 4th July, there are a few key dates to remember
18th June - Last day to apply to vote ! You can register online until 23:59
19th June - Last day to apply for the postal vote. You can do this here.
26th June - Last day to apply for the proxy vote. You can do this here.
As a student, you can register to vote both at home, and at your term time address.
You can ONLY vote in one of these places for the general election.
If you are unsure, you can check your eligibility out on 'Can I Vote'
The general election affects numerous issues that are absolutely integral to students, such as housing, education funding and quality, and mental health services.
You can brush up on party policies via their manifestos, and personally I find 'I Side With' super helpful - but keep in mind that this is powered by AI, so make sure to do your own research too !
You need ID to vote in person.
You can NOT use your student ID or young person's travel card as ID to vote.
Instead, you may want to get a free CitizenCard by using code 'NUS' (available until 20th June), or apply for a Voter Authority Certificate by 5pm on the 26th June.
If you cannot access photo ID for whatever reason, you can also vote by post or proxy.
