An intro ? On a rare update ?? Yeah let’s pass on that and get right into it !
At the start of the month, I got to do a ‘one year on’ talk for Psychology – something that feels like a full circle moment considering how religiously I used to attend them in first year. I got to (lovingly) yap about all things Education Officer here at the SU, and also got to hear about the amazingly intricate work and paths of those who I graduated alongside this time last year (can you believe it ??).
Yasmin Sachdev is a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant here at Bath for MoCHA, Anna Hancox got knees deep into policy research, her placement at Anna Freud and all things Patient Public Involvement, and last but not least Kate Blackburn told us all about how to avoid burn-out when working with sensitive subjects as an assistant psychologist. They all did such stellar jobs, and I’m so glad to see them thriving!!
The following Monday, we had our penultimate (pending) south-west officer meet up at Bristol – and got to collaborate with All the SUs from the south-west on our current campaigns (looking at you buses). It is always a charm to see old faces, and I can’t wait to see how this alliance passes on with the next groups of officers. I just know me, Jiji, and Dave will be all over keeping this going.
As well as this, we have (as I type this!) just had our first day of the SU pantry – where 108 students came to fill a bag with foodstuffs. It has been amazing to launch this as our final officer campaign, but it stings so bittersweet knowing that, first and foremost, so many students need help and this is just a pilot, but also that this is the end of this team. You can check my LinkedIn post about it here !
As well as this, May is obviously exam season – which means I have been getting flooded with questions about IMCs (see previous blog post!), and relentlessly bugging about buses. As a reminder, North Parade is currently closed for EIGHT WEEKS for works. First has reassured us that this shouldn’t affect provision, but we are keeping a close eye. There is also a bunch of Study Well activities on campus, including bubbles, dogs, and a petting zoo !
Well, I will wrap that up here for now, and get back to you on how the therapy dogs are (I can only bet amazing as always) later, as well as updating on our student leader celebrations on the recently claimed second floor of the Edge !
