One of the Students' Union Top Ten issues for this academic year is personalised timetables and as Education Officer it is little suprise that it is me taking on the task of implementing this change.
The University has been fairly reseptive to making improvements in technology and e-learning over the past three years and, therefore, has agreed that it will invest in a personalised timetable. It is investing in a similar technology to the University of Bristol and the University of Exeter, called MyTimetable, who have both recently successfully launched.
The timetable software will allow you to select the units that you are taking (or maybe interested in) and populate a calendar with the lecture times and locations. It will then ask you to select the seminars that you will be attending, which will also be automatically added. This can then be exported to phone/computer/tablet calendars, such as Apple/Microsoft/Google calendar.
A trial period is due to begin soon so that the software can be tested which will give enough time for the timetables to be fully launched in the second semester. We have also agreed that there will be a further consultation period with students after the launch to iron out any problems and to recommend improvements to the existing platform.
If this is something you'd be interested in then please let me know, but for now look forward to your own personalised timetable!
