Hello hello friends!
The past couple weeks have been jam-packed with meetings, training, tiktok makings and sticking googly eyes all over the Edge office. I also found a pack of my favourite French sweets which has meant I have a lot more energy to bother Elizabeth (Sports Officer)!
Lead and Change
Every year Student Union's across the country send their officers on Lead & Change training that is delivered by NUS (National Union of Students). I got network with other Activities Officer and met some truly inspiring people who gave me lots of ideas of what changes we could bring to some of our processes. I got some ideas on how to revamp the previously used tier system which was very exciting.
Skills Development
I've been working on finalising my first draft of the cultural awareness training. I've been talking to Sid (Postgraduate Officer) and Meg (Community Officer) on how we can best deliver the training. Generally I've just been working on the content of the training. Next steps are going to be to fit in a meeting with our Skills coordinator at the SU to see what should be added.
I've also been working on the volunteer recognition award scheme and how to make sure you guys are recognised for the amazing work you do! I'm currently working on the first draft of the award scheme and it's slowly starting to take shape which is exciting. ( I do apologise for using the word excited 484858 times, I am just very excited about what's to come!)
Myself and the wonderful Sports Officer have been working with SU Staff on a common Chair training that all committees from both volunteering, sports and societies can receive.
Top 10
Every year the Officer Team gives the University its list of 10 priority tasks that it would like for the University to do by the end of the year. I've just been researching which has involved plenty of meetings about lots of super interesting topics which I can't wait to tell you all soon!! We'll be finalising the list by the end of September so keep an eye out for that!
Sustainability
Where do I start ... The world is literally on fire and I'm just sat wondering what bigger wake up call do global leaders need to have before they start taking some serious measures?
I've been working closely with the Plug and Tub to see what can be done. We've gone through a big ol' list of things that we could potentially change to make our Plug and Tub more sustainable! We were to hear YOUR ideas! Please email me or message me!
I've been having meetings about members of the Climate Action Team from the University which has been super useful, this has been a part of the top 10 research !
I'll also been attending the Officer Sustainability Bootcamp for two days next week which is organised by Student Organizing for Sustainability!
Freshers Week
First of all, congratulations to all students who have #GotIntoBath, you should all be so proud of yourselves! I've been involved in the planning of Freshers Fair and just generally Freshers Week to see how we can keep you all safe because it is unlikely that covid-19 will disappear overnight (big sad).
FW is going to be insane and I'm so so excited for arena nights to be back!
Also, feeling ecstatic that we are able to offer second years a take 2 on their freshers week!
Talking to you guys
I've also been working on how we can best communicate with our societies and committees. I've been brainstorming as to what platform to use and which one you guys would prefer, I'm meeting with our fabulous SU Marketing Team once I come back from annual leave! I've also filmed a short video to help you get started which committees you should see pop in your inbox soon!
I'm also going to be holding regular drop-in sessions where you can book slots and come talk to me directly with any questions or even if you just fancy a chat! More details on this to come soon !!
Anyways that is it for now! As always if you have any questions just email me at suactivities@bath.ac.uk or message me on Facebook!
