The cultural differences do stand as barriers occasionally, in my case, compared to Chinese people, English people are very frank and straight forward, so when it comes to discussions about organising an event for the society for example, at points where disagreements occur, I, at first, find it a bit offensive as the English members can be very direct during the discussion. But again this is exactly the inter-cultural exchange experience which I came to study in UK for, and I got used to it after staying in UK for a while and now even some of my friends from Hong Kong find me very frank and straight forward.
Language differences might pose possible barriers as well, when one first arrives in the UK, but I think the university offers a good environment for one to practice English, we have classes and English speaking people everywhere, but it is just up to one to make good use of the resources the university provides.
