Safety at our venue

Drink Spiking

Event Control

The venue has an event control room which looks over the night club when operating, with 19 CCTV cameras.

Spikeys

At both the Plug & Tub you can ask for ‘Spikeys’ free of charge. Spikeys are an anti-spiking product which fits tightly in bottles, blocking the entrance from being open to having additional substances added! Just ask any staff member when ordering your drink.

StopTopps

We also now have StopTopps, these are versatile drink protectors. They are single-use foils that can be put over a drink, and are suitable for any drinking vessel, including cans, bottles, and glasses. Made from small sheets of aluminium foil, through which you can insert a straw for easy drinking. This makes it difficult for anything to be added to your drink without your knowledge.

Security Staff

All bar and security staff are trained on drink spiking awareness as well as on the use of our SU Safe Taxi Scheme, which gives you a safe transport option home when needed.

Searching

Security have increased frequency of on-the-door searching and additional training will be incorporated into the nightly bar briefing for all staff.

Safe Area

The Student Centre has a safe area for students to use if they feel unwell and need to rest during a night out. Please contact the nearest member of staff if you feel unwell for directions.

What to do if you think you have been spiked in our venue

  • Immediately ask for help from a friend that you trust or the nearest available member of staff for assistance.
  • If you are able to, keep possession of your most recent drink. This could be useful evidence to test if the drink has been spiked.

What to do if you wake up thinking you have been spiked the night before

Everybody reacts differently to any situation. You shouldn’t feel under any pressure to respond in a particular way. If you want to, you could:

  • Report the incident via our Report and Support tool. This can be done anonymously if you prefer.
  • Discuss the incident and options with a Wellbeing Adviser or a University Counsellor (all fully trained and will maintain your confidentiality unless there is a threat to health or safety). Contact the Student Services helpdesk on 01225 383838
  • Report the incident to University Security call 01225 383999, or directly to the Police.
  • Contact SU Advice and Support at suadvice@bath.ac.uk

How can I try to prevent my drink from being spiked?

You should:

  • not leave your drink unattended and keep an eye on friends' drinks
  • ask for a ‘Spikey’ or ‘Stop Topp’ when ordering your drink from the bar
  • keep your drink in your hand at all times
  • never accept a drink from someone who you do not know or trust
  • not share, swap or drink any left over drinks
