Semester 2 Classes - ON SALE NOW!
Beginners Ballet: 3 February - 24 March (8-week block)
Mondays 19:00-20:00
Always fancied learning ballet? These Beginners Ballet classes are for you!
An hour of ballet aimed at those just starting out in their ballet training, or who would prefer a simpler class of more standard ballet steps to get their ballet brains back in gear and work on their technique.
Every week will start with basic technique and step preparation at the barre, followed by learning some different steps in the centre and putting them together into exercise sequences.
Beginners Ballet PLUS: 3 February - 24 March (8-week block)
Mondays 20:00-21:00
These Beginners Ballet PLUS classes are aimed at those who have a grasp of the basic ballet techniques and steps but would like to stretch themselves with some more challenging ballet steps.
For those with some ballet training already, either from external classes previously, or from completing a year's worth of Beginners Ballet classes throught the SU.
These classes are ideal for dancers looking to bridge the gap between the Beginners Ballet classes and the faster paced Intermediate Ballet classes. The steps and sequences in these classes will build on those learnt in Beginners Ballet by adding more complex steps together into longer sequences.
Or, if you danced as a child but haven't kept it up for a few years, this is the class to join as a refresh for those long lost ballet steps!
Intermediate Ballet (with optional Pointe): 4 February - 25 March (8-week block)
Tuesdays 19:00-21:00
These Intermediate Ballet classes are for those more experienced in ballet.
If you took regular classes previously and/or completed ballet exams up to a grade 5/intermediate level then these sessions are for you.
Exercises include multiple steps in each, with the expectation that the dancers understand a good amount of step terminology and the techniques needed for them. Classes are taught at a faster pace, and exercises danced in smaller groups across the room, with more focus on the individual's technique and expression in their dance.
Each class begins at the barre, followed by ports de bras/adage and further centre work, finishing with some allegro and possibly learning some classical ballet repertoire if desired.
Optional Pointe: 20:30-21:00
30 minutes of optional pointe-work for those dancers who have already been on pointe.
Starting at barre with a warm-up and strengthening work, the aim of this class is to "get the dancers dancing" in their pointe shoes!
Learning to move in the pointe shoes around the studio, with steps on pointe and on flat, the exercises focus on increasing the ability of the dancer to transition from flat shoes into pointe shoes comfortably and to have fun in them.
(It is not permitted to join this class for your first time "on pointe".)
